About Us

OUR VISION

High Horses fosters a community where horse and human interactions improve lives.

Who We Serve

An array of individuals find healing at High Horses. Although each participant has unique circumstances, we meet the needs of our community by serving individuals with emotional health challenges, learning or developmental disabilities, trauma-related conditions, and other neurodivergent challenges.

Impact

Activities with our horses can make a real impact on the lives of youths and adults. Therefore, we offer a range of programs to improve the mental and behavioral health of individuals through the power of equine-assisted activities and therapies.

We use the healing and therapeutic power of horses to improve the balance, strength, muscle tone, self-image, self-confidence, and quality of life.

Our Teams

We’re a growing team of certified therapists, instructors, and experts in our field — full of personality minus the ego. We’re the wearer of many hats dedicated to helping people like you THRIVE. Our team also includes a large group of special and dedicated horses that are eager to help you along your journey.

Our story began in 1993 with a small group of volunteers, two borrowed horses, 17 riders, and no set place to call home.   This brave little group shared a belief in the power of the human-horse connection — and a desire to help those with unique needs.  Our “founders” were pioneers, working hard to inspire an equine movement that became the High Horses Therapeutic Riding Program.

High Horses was one of the first programs in New England to pass the rigorous review for a PATH Premier Accredited Center.  Along the way, we have fostered strong community partnerships in the Upper Valley, while establishing a firm presence throughout the therapeutic riding industry. High Horses has been a leader in championing quality standards, promoting rigorous outcome evaluations and research-based data.  We are proud of this legacy.

Today…

High Horses features a highly credentialed staff, hundreds of volunteers, a beloved herd, and a 38-acre farm.  Each year we bring enrichment and healing to more than 200 participants, who represent all ages and backgrounds from 3 years old to 90 years young.  Our core areas of Adaptive Riding and Physical/Occupational Therapy are carefully cultivated — and we are creating comprehensive programs to meet the current needs of veterans, youth, and the elderly, as well as their families and caregivers.

As we “Walk On”…

We are thrilled to enter the next chapter with a new name that pays tribute to our past, reflects the energy of our present, and the endless possibilities for our future: High Horses Center for Equine-Assisted Services.
