Carol Little - Board Member

Carol Little, a retired pediatrician, lives in Hartland, Vermont.  After college, she attended the University of Vermont Medical School. Following post-graduate training in Colorado, she returned with her husband to Vermont and settled in the Upper Valley.  She completed her pediatric training at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and concentrated her medical practice in the field of Child Development. It was the youngest of their children who brought horses into Carol’s life; at seven, she convinced Carol and her husband that their newly constructed barn needed a horse, leading to Carol learning about horse care and management, lessons and clinics, summer camps and event competitions.  Since Carol joined the High Horses Board in 2021 during the Covid pandemic, she has been involved in helping steer High Horses’ focus on safety issues, originally as head of the Health and Safety Committee.  With the updated Board structure, she is now leading a steering committee to develop a safety audit to maintain and improve the safe operation of High Horses, not only including its physical facility, but its extensive programs, clients, and horses.  In addition to serving on the Board, Carol takes great joy in volunteering at the barn, whether mucking stalls or assisting in lessons, especially with children.
