What is Horse Powered Reading®?
Horse Powered Reading® is a research based literacy program that uses equine-assisted learning activities to enhance reading skills and retention. Horses, sensitive to human emotions and non-verbal communication, offer support that helps students engage in learning in new ways.
The program, tailored to meet the needs of struggling readers, focuses on vocabulary building, comprehension strategies, and fostering a love for reading in a non-traditional, engaging environment.
How It Works
Hands-On Activities: Each session incorporates hands-on experiences, such as leading the horse during the activities in the arena, which reinforces the learning process and builds a strong bond between the child and the horse.
Skill-Building Activities: Students build on these direct horse connections with horse-related reading activities that further develop vocabulary and their confidence.
