Horse Powered Reading®
Horse Powered Reading® is a research based literacy program that uses equine-assisted learning activities to enhance reading skills and retention. Horses, sensitive to human emotions and non-verbal communication, offer support that helps students engage in learning in new ways.
The program, tailored to meet the needs of struggling readers, focuses on vocabulary building, comprehension strategies, and fostering a love for reading in a non-traditional, engaging environment.
Horse Powered Reading® is inclusive and welcomes children of all abilities, emphasizing that every child deserves the opportunity to discover the joy of reading in a supportive and engaging environment.
Women Veterans Program
The Women Veterans Program at High Horses is designed specifically to address the unique mental health needs of female veterans who may be struggling with PTSD, military sexual trauma (MST), anxiety, depression, and reintegration challenges.
This program combines equine-assisted therapy, group support, and individual sessions to help veterans reconnect with their sense of self-worth, purpose, and confidence. The group format fosters camaraderie among participants, allowing women veterans to build supportive relationships while sharing their experiences and challenges.
Summer Camps
Our summer camps for children and teens offer a unique blend of mounted and unmounted equine activities. Participants will engage in riding, horse handling, grooming, barn chores, and stable management, all while fostering personal growth and teamwork.
Equine Activities: Campers will participate in a variety of hands-on experiences that promote horsemanship skills, from basic grooming to advanced riding techniques.
Self-Development and Team Building: Activities are designed to enhance self-confidence and cooperation, helping campers build important life skills while working with their peers and our therapy horses.
Herd Observation and Communication: Students will learn about horse behavior and herd dynamics, developing their communication and safety skills in a supportive environment.
Environmental Stewardship: We emphasize responsible stewardship practices, teaching campers how to respect, preserve, and protect our natural environment while caring for our equine friends.
